Tour “The Secrets of Pažaislis Monastery”

Briefly about the tour

• During the tour, we will visit one of the most beautiful late baroque examples in Northeast Europe - the Pažaislis monastery and the Church of the Holy Virgin Mary's Apparition to Elisabeth.
• Here, we will learn about the history of the 17th-century ensemble, its rich initiator and founder Kristupas Žygimantas Pacas, the chancellor of the Grand Dutchy of Lithuania, Camaldolese monks who had given vows of poverty, and other owners of the ensemble.
• The ensemble was designed and built in the 17th century by the most famous masters from Italy.
• Curious locals had calculated that the monastery and church construction cost 8 million gold coins.
• Camaldolese monks who lived here upheld a rigorous and ascetic order.
