Tasting tour “The interwar cuisine”

 

Minimum group size – 12 people. Maximum – 60.

Price: 50 euros per person, price includes educational programme and food.

 

You will get a 1-hour tour of interwar Kaunas. Afterward, you will have a 1.5-hour tasting of interwar dishes in the restaurant “Park Avenue” (Perkūno al. 4, Kaunas) while listening to the stories about the cuisine of that time, the food industry, flavours, favourite dishes of famous people, eating habits of the nobility and diplomacy, and everyday life of restaurants and cafes.

You will get a 1-hour tour of interwar Kaunas. Afterward, you will have a 1.5-hour tasting of interwar dishes in the restaurant “Park Avenue” (Perkūno al. 4, Kaunas) while listening to the stories about the cuisine of that time, the food industry, flavours, favourite dishes of famous people, eating habits of the nobility and diplomacy, and everyday life of restaurants and cafes.

The route of the tour follows the wonderful streets of Žaliakalnis (from Kaunas Sports Hall to restaurant “Park Avenue” (Perkūno al. 4, Kaunas).

The building at Perkūno al. 4 is a green house built 100 years ago on a green hill. That house used to be the residence of the German envoy. So, it is unsurprising that the tasting menu is chosen based on the dishes offered to the guests by German envoy E. Zechlin, who used to reside here. His grandson Thomas, who has visited this place, provided us with a lot of helpful knowledge.

During the tasting, the following dishes are offered:

  • Forest mushroom strudel with truffle and pecorino cream;
  • Natural duck broth and a dumpling with minced pork;
  • Beef roll with polenta, cauliflower, and red wine sauce.
  • For dessert, “The Black Forest” is served with cherry ice cream made by the chef.

 

Are there any vegetarians in your group? We will offer them the following dishes:

  • Forest mushroom strudel with truffle and pecorino cream;
  • Vegetable broth and a dumpling with vegetables;
  • Roasted cheese with polenta, cauliflower, and red wine sauce.
  • For dessert, “The Black Forest” is served with cherry ice cream made by the chef.

 

 

During the tasting, you can order additional Lithuanian and German drinks.
